True wellness encompasses physical, mental, and emotional health. When you decided it's time for a change, focusing on where you want to be may seem like a good idea, but long term and lifetime change happens one day at a time, one small habit at a time.

So what can you do?
If you're new to strength training or any physical fitness routine, sustainability is key. Want to eventually run a 5k? Start running in small increments. And I mean SMALL. Run for 60 seconds, then walk for 4 minutes. Do a few rounds of this a couple times a week. Then in the coming weeks, keep those increments of 5 minutes. but change the split: run for 2 minutes, walk for 3. The key is to commit without overwhelming yourself. Apply that principal to training. Starting lifting two days a week. Do two full body lifts. After that feels good, make it a three day split. For that, I'd do a push day, a pull day, and a fully body day.
If you're looking for ways to increase your wellness...
Maybe you have the physical fitness routine part down, or maybe you're not interested in that at all currently and you're looking for ways to increase your mental and emotional wellness. What can do you?
Make your bed immediately (this is a Jocko Willink supported theory that discusses discipline, productivity, and feeling accomplished). Brush your teeth. Drink a glass of water. Better yet, drink some electrolytes. Go outside and get fresh air and 20 minutes of sunshine. Do some light stretches. Eat something (ideally within 30 minutes of waking up, especially for women). Then have your coffee or green tea. And then you can sit down and look at your phone.
If you're starting from scratch, doing ALL of that seems like "wtf?! I gotta stress myself into wellness?!" So that's why we start with one small habit. Make your bed as you get out of it. It takes a minute. Do that every day for a month. Then we can talk about what's next.
Amy, what's the point of this?
I'm glad you asked. It only takes one small, but intentional, habit to make a world of difference in your lifetime. In a time and space when we often put others ahead of ourselves or just move through life without intention and understanding, taking control of our time, energy, and resources is where we start to find our well being. You can't pour from an empty cup, take the minute, or minutes, to fill yours up.
